Music: DiDi & Rookes

Off to West Malvern for a gig, first time in ages. Byakhee Richard had organised a gig with two musicians neither I’d heard before – I checked them out on the net before hand to check they weren’t country and western or some such nonsense.

DiDi first up, range of musical styles, a solo artist everything from acapello to punk/grunge type, and one hilarious song which involved audience participation much to the embarrassment of one punter who turned up late. I have a video of this, but…

Note it was difficult to take photos because she was very animated.

Similarly animated was Rookes, again a solo artist. This time with some more electronic gadgets but this wasn’t electronic stuff.

All the live “percussion” and backing vocals were recorded live in front of the audience using a Loop system, so this wasn’t someone using backing tapes.

At the same time as using this Loop device, and a couple of other devices for the synthesisers, she was playing either electric guitar or ukulele.

Quite an achievement, and made a really good sound.

So I had to buy the EP that is not available in physical form until next year, and I got it signed. 🙂

If you get a chance, go see these two musicians, they’re worth a punt. They’re not my normal choice of music but they are dedicated, professional and very very good. I had an excellent time !
