Hansat & Rawnald

A couple of adventurers to delve into trapdoors and through barred doors.

Hansat, one of the C02 Wizards project.

he also turns up in the Lichemaster campaign as a warrior monk, so In have used that colour scheme.

Rawnald Bugges, one of the last range of pre-slotta C04 Thieves. Can’t thin k where they go the name from.

As you can see, for once a pre-slotta figure is bigger !

But then he was a larger than life character. 😉

FG: The Coming of Ambronnax

The third part of the first scenario. We were amazed we’d got through the first two scenarios so fast.

Slight re-arrange of scenery.

My full warband, and this time, Axel Starsong is a real Templar with a real double handed weapon ! As JP comment4d, he knew it was a real soldier this time as I couldn’t do the same trick twice. Though there may also have been another illusionary soldier along for the ride.

Aeon’s bunch of hippies opposite.

The target as per the scenario was the central treasure with the true name of Ambrronix.

My warband punted on the first treasure luring the failing wretch to jus, which my REAL templar promptly dispatched.

Whilst the second wretch was felled by Aeon’s Demon hunter – this is a scenario about demons so it was totally appropriate !

As my rangers lugged the treasure away, Shazzam’s! Captain and Templar reached the central alter and took the central treasure, along with the war hound, only for Ambronnax to materialise.

At this point both Jp and I went in to narrative overdrive as opposed to power gaming.

A failing wretch popped up and attacked Shazzam! My ranger intervened and helped Shazzam! fell the creature. Curiously the thug didn’t. 😉

Having no beef with the demon, my Captain, Templar and war hound made a swift exit – well as swift as one action allows (scenario rules).

But Aeon threw her minions at this dangerous demon as per her back story as written by JP.

A few sticks were hurled at the war hound who became confused that they were aimed at it, not for it.

But this didn’t stop me from half hinching another piece of treasure.

Captain, Demon Hunter, thugs were all thrown in to the fray by Aeon (JP). At this point a lot of good fighters went down against the demon.

BUT….

The demon was being whittled down on Health points despite the Captain dying, the demon slayer dying etc…

Until…

…it was felled by a roll of 20 by the last remaining thug !

An excellent game that swung back and forth until decided by a final single dice roll.

JP advanced the narrative and I have now threatened to use the True Name of Ambronnax to forge a pact to help play in to this narrative.

Here is JP’s take on these three scenarios.

FG: Time Rot

Scenario One, Part Two.

This was the second part of the scenario where the “other” half of the warband got to fight.

We didn’t shift the scenery around much as we wanted another quick game.

Aeon and her minions this time – the reverse of what happened before.

Marvo III and the Captain with a few side kicks.

Off we go, I picked up some loot, and a Barbarian Thief was attracted to the sound of gold coins ! This would prove a rather important event later.

Whilst Aeon’s thief lugged away another item of treasure.

Alerting a ghoul, hunched, dirty and generally insanitary. So nothing like JP or I. 😉

This time we had remembered to add the failing wretch to the central item (another Amulet of Constancy), but that was drawn off when it went for one of JP’s thugs, thus leaving my tunnel fighter and Captain to nab it. At this point the Captain was on one Action due to the Initiative Roll table that is special to this scenario !

Marvo III had hidden from the Barbarian thief, and my thief and illusionary soldier were trying to peg it, when the Barbarian caught up with them.

My Captain made a rush for Aeon to slay here (again), and ended in combat with a thug, who slew him (again). Worth a try.

A threesome – my thief, Aeon’s Archer, and the barbarian thief…we all fall down.

So Aeon (JP) one the battle, as I only got 3 items off, but I did get the second Amulet much to JP’s annoyance.

On to the third and final part of the scenario…

FG: Secrets Uncovered

Now that we had finished the last campaign, I suggested to JP that we do Forgotten Pacts. For once JP had a random day available, so off we went !

Unfortunately, I’d managed to lose Louis the camera, so all the photos are from JP.

JP’s failing wretch, which resembles neither of us !!!

As per the scenario, we only had half our war bands, so I fielded Shazam! first, with a mysterious new warrior with a great big axe.

And JP did the opposite – Apprentice and Captain, which I had planned for the next part of the scenario.

Aeon’s warband struck first killing a failing wretch.

And then the puppy killers shot my war hound.

Before shooting the second failing wretch.

With such firepower Shazam! approached the central treasure which was an Amulet of Constancy somewhat cautiously.

Before sprinting in to action after his Illusionary Soldier had been revealed ! His Rangerer joined him as the enemy war hound attacked. Obviously this brutal beast got the treatment it deserved.

A timely retreat was in order.

An act of petty revenge and the Rangerer/meat shield was cut down.

Quite a quick game, not surprisingly due to only having half sized war bands. We forgot to have a failing wretch guarding the amulet.

Now on to the second part of the scenario with the other half of the war bands with roles reversed…

I’ve got my eye on you

Byakhee JP has been using Wizard’s Eye for his latest wizard, and so learning from this I decided to use it for my latest war band as well.

But of course this needs a bit of scenery, so I set to work to make it.

Large paper clip as the stand.Looks a bit wonky !

Not for much longer. My grandfather was an engineer so my father has his tools including this vice.

Better !

Painted black.

Downloaded several images of magical eyes from the interwebnet thingy.

Printed, and laminated with the back being painted black.

It works.

Could do better I think is the phrase.

Now that I have proved the concept I’ll work on a few more.

I’ve got Crabs

Calm down ladies, I have Crab-Men, giant ones.

From Alternative Armies.

They come as resin figures with the arms separate. I looked at them and thought I could glue them together, and then decided it’d be better if they were pinned and glued given the size and weight of the arms, so off they went to Byakhee Richard.

Very simple to paint.

Reminded me of a time when my grandparents took me down to Poole harbour where the extended family had fishing boats and they collected a box of crabs and drove back home. An open box, on the back seat next to me. And these weren’t the tiddlers you get on beaches but the full dinner plate sized jobs. ALIVE, and trying to get out, so I had to keep poking them back in to the box. As a 7 year old.

Another more animated one will be finished shortly.

Along with wading through two games’ worth of photos from Saturday that Alan and I did.

FG: More Ulterior Motives

The third game JP and I played-now shamefully over a week ago as I grind my way through a 100 or so photos.

Basic head to head, but with the Ulterior Motives cards used.

I drew the “Once Bitten” card…and JP drew the “Arcane Geyser”…which is apt as he is a geezer. Whilst he knew about the former, I didn’t know about the later.

The board.

The Werewolf in the middle next to a treasure and the red herring (rune stone).

The pit, maybe we were starting to get tired but I knew the this was the target of JP’s war band due to his deployed.

Shazzam!’s deployed war band.

JP’s (Aeon’s) war band.

Let’s get the treasure.
Err and try and cast some spells.
Or NOT.

The enemy cowered behind the wall to avoid the Werewolf that ambled round gently.

My sturdy stalwarts got ready for a co-ordinated attack, having been buffed (NOT) for combat with the Werewolf.

My Captain seized a chance and attacked Aeon herself, badly wounding her, but was set upon by the minions and fell. Nice try.

Meanwhile my thug and tunnel fighter downed the Werewolf.

We then had a massive fight in the middle off the central room.

The Arcane Geyser erupted, blinding JP’s thief, but by this time Shazzam! and Marvo had left the board – they had cast a total of 2 spells in 5 rounds between them (SHAME !)

The combat in the central chamber ground on, JP losing his Captain and two more, to my two, so a, physic victory for me.

And I didn’t even get the central treasure.

A right caning for me, and as for the spell casters well less said the better.

Here is JP’s take on things.

FG: The Breeding Pit

The second of the three games JP and I played on Saturday, the final scenario from “Into the Breeding Pits”.

The final dungeon, or so it might seem.

The quest was to find the Beastcrafter Grimoire.

Shazzam! and his war band set off into the dungeon.

The opposition move in – Jon’s Chronomancer seemed to think the treasure was hers for the taking.

Obviously the breeding pit was home to a lot of wandering monsters, like this white gorilla which just happened to turn cup behind my war band – typical.

However, I got my revenge, by placing an Amplipede behind enemy lines. (The rules for placing wandering monsters are different)

Panaoramic view.

Wizard down !

Treasure Hunter down !
Those pesky Wizard’s Eyes are proving annoying, mind you the Treasure Hunter has fallen down in the last three games or so consistently.

My Captain lead the way…HOME !!!!

Whilst the Amplipede did in for another one of the Chronomancer’s war band.

Our first two Gnolls of the campaign appeared, behind my avenues of escape.

And then my Apprentice Marvo II copped it, again, via an Elemental Bolt cast through the Wizard Eye.

And then the war hound died.:-(

Getting the drift of how this was going ?

And then the thug died at the hands of the Grey Falcon (Captain)

So I managed to get three treasures off the table, but at considerable cost due to poor dice rolling.

I jokingly said “This can’t get much worse” to Jon, who promptly reminded me to roll for Marvo II’s recovery…and then rolled a 1 – DEAD. So all my carefully hoarded gold was spent replacing him with his triplet sibling….Marvo III.

In the meantime, here’s Jon take on things.

Third report to come later.

FG: The Rats in the Walls

Whilst the nation was gripped by some fever compelling them to watch some event, JP and I played three games, two of which wrapped up the “into the Breeding Pits” campaign.

Set up.

the dastardly opposition.

My brave war band move forward as the first rats appear.

Marvo II and a thug dealing with a rat.

Fortunately the enemy were also experiencing the same amount of rodents.

Another treasure gained, another rat disturbed, and splatted.

As were the opposition.

Individually not that dangerous, but in the numbers turning up it would only be a matter of time before they chewed down on an unfortunate explorer.

So I used this an opportunity to launch a speculative attack into the central chamber on the true enemy.

With unfortunate consequences.

But the rest of the fighting was hard.

And a bit of 2’x4″ to the head often hurst, as the enemy captain found out.

It’s a rat trap – a falling rat fell on my tunnel fighter and had to be dealt with. By this point I was quoting Boomtown Rats lyrics/song titles.

The game ended with even stevens on treasure, great fun lots of rats with Jon even nicking one of daughters’ toy mice to make sure we had enough models.

FG: Mating Season

The second game Jon and I played, again as part of the Into the Breeding Pits campaign which we hope to finish off tomorrow whilst avoiding a certain event…

A standard dungeon layout.

Shazzam! had conjured a Fool’s Gold but not a Reveal Secret. I split my war band into two to go after the treasure and also to avoid the beasties that were due to turn up.

A tactic that Jon had also decided upon.

The Devourers whilst nominally placid could be decidedly nasty.

First treasure picked up by yours truely, resulted in some ice spiders, which were duly dropped in front of Jon’s war band as reWenge for the previous game where he got to place all the wandering monsters.

Sadly, he also got some treasure and a Violent Fungiman popped up, and both my thug and Captain failed their Will rolls, so despite killing the fungi man, ended up counted as wounded. Good job I had a heal spell and a Wand of mending then !

Cheers said my master thief as he picked up and half hinted another treasure chest.

The Devourers arrive !

Everyone scattered for cover.

Well those not fighting ice spiders.

Or my Treasure Hunter who again died ignominiously with a single shot from Jon’s archer.

Two giant rats turned up as wandering monsters, usually inconsequential but…

…not when they bite the Apprentice to death – yup the second Apprentice to die that day.

Meanwhile my Captain having been healed took a chance and took on a war hound and thug, dishing one straight away but the hound proved a tougher challenge.

For a bit.

By now, most of the war band members were heading for the exits before the devourers got riled up.

Well apart from one infantryman that bizarrely walked right in front of them….

Three treasures a piece, but I claim moral victory as this time round I didn’t lose my Apprentice.

Here is Jon’s take on events.
