Moving House

Been busy, prepping to move house, but I have a very big WHFB write up and as of today two new Frostgrave games to write up.

As regulars attending my games sessions, the Cats treat visitors with disdain if not out right hostility.

So now Im am preparing to integrate them into a household with two strange humans, a dog, and a big fat lazy cat.

Updates to follow next week, maybe this w/e if I have time as JP and I have started playing the Thaw of the Liche Lord campaign for Frostgrave.

Scenery – more walls

For Xmashammer, I ahd to dig out some plastic walls I had for the third scenario.

But Quelle Horror – they were unpainted.

So I decided to very quickly paint them and add to the scenery pile I could legitimately use.

They were from the GW Empire Farm set (now OOP, as ever). Rather than grey coping stones I went with reddish ones for a bit of variety.

The gate sections.

Useful for WHFB, Frostgrave and Mordheim.

Whilst I was at it, I found an offset of foam board, and made a 5th Wall for Frostgrave.

Now all I need to do is model some walls with Cats on top of them.

As my neighbours’ cat knows, walls are only there to help them get higher up into the trees, and their next snack.

Flu, Cats and clear outs

I thought I’d only been away from the site a week, but I see its nearly 10 days !

As ever time flies when you’re having fun. Or rather, not, as most of the last 4 days have been.

I cracked open a box of Samurai of mostly Citadel vintage and decided to flog them on e-bay which was a lucrative experience, but rather odd. Some of them went for very high prices, and others didn’t shift at all. The market for figures these days is very hit and miss. What I have noticed is that the very popular ranges sell for little, and the less popular sell for more. Presumably due to the availability of the popular models and the more obscure being rare. That trend is bucked by iconic figures being much sought after.

Anyway, by selective pruning I emptied two more boxes of figures, and flogged one of the boxes to JP. It is always sad to sell off figures, but as I reflected, I had used maybe half a dozen Samurai once in a battle 30 or more years ago. Sometimes they just need to be got rid of, especially as I when;’t even painted them. Wargamers joke about the lead mountain they accumulate, mine is an entire mountain range. So far in the last 2 years I’ve downsized by 10+ boxes (the old GW cases) and need to go for another 5+ in the next month as I am likely to move house.

Now its been cold here in the UK, so late one evening last week I was concerned that BlackJack had not made his satanic presence felt, so early in the evening I lit the fire, and noticed a bulge under the sofa skirts again:

Hmm, a cat sized bulge, for a cat known to play underneath the sofa skirts ?

Even with my flu befuddling my brain cell, I thought this more than co-incidence.

Yes, he’d been asleep under there all afternoon and into the evening. Forget the cushion/throne, forget the blankets provided…sleeping on the floor under the sofa was the latest “thing”

The flu BTW was picked up at a conference I attended last Saturday with my Councillor hat on. Though its obviously doing the rounds, as my parents came down with it a few days later.

Pringles – a valid feline dietary option, and source of scenery

Reminded by Byakhee JP that Pringles tubes are useful for scenery, I indulged, and reminded myself of earlier efforts at scenery I’d done.

Necromunda scenery from c1999. Might be useful for Rogue Stars ?

Additional pieces including scatter terrain made from the old GW scenery stuff, brass plumbing fittings, and the plastic top of a deodorant bottle.

Another unfinished piece of scenery that has languished in the playroom cupboard for 14+ years.

I’d added some WHFB bits to the tower, along with the inevitable masonry paint. This also makes the cardboard tubes much stronger and robust.

I’d also used some very old “Arcane Architecture” pieces back when Citadel/GW were of any use, and designed it as a wizard’s tower, so when better to use it than in a game of Frostgrave ?

I’ve been searching the Intercatwebnet for different dolls house tile paper and will be getting some for the ground floor to make it a different and “special” piece of scenery later this week.

So I stuffed my face with more Pringles over the last week, ably helped by…

…Spades, he preferred the Cheese & Onion flavour but partook of all flavours. And today decided Mayonnaise was also on the menu.

These new tubes will be chopped up to make useful huts and mini towers for the Frostgrave scenarios that I’ll be playing with the BYakhees – need the scenery if JP is not around !

They seek him here…

…they seek him there, they seek him everywhere…

I knew he was in the house, so checked all the usual places, the throne (big cushion on sofa), the beaky in the kitchen, the futon, the landing blank etc…

Yes, obviously, he was sleeping half covered by the skirt of the sofa. I only spotted BlackJack on the second sweep of the house because he’d stretched his front paw out.

Now to find out where Spades has started nesting…

Cat in a drawer, Frostgrave, and How Long have we known about Global Warming ?

First the important bit:

Complete with cartoons, presented by Dr Kate Hayhoe.

An excellent entry level guide to the science of global warming and how it is not anything other than basic physics established over the last 200 years.

At the opposite end of climatic events, here is JP’s take on the couple of games we played last Friday. The Silent Tower, and bare buttocks (don’t ask !).

Now for the gratuitous Cat photo:

Spades decided that my half open drawer full of wooly jumpers and fleeces would be his nest for the night, so when I went to bed I left him in there and got woken up at 5am, suffering a +2 Trample Attack as he wanted to go get some food (so he walked over my chest and head).

Look – Squirrel !

An oft used tactic by climate change deniers is to make a completely spurious and off topic claim after their initial assertion has been shown to be a steaming pile of s h 1 t.

This is known as the Look – Squirrel argument.

This morning however, I had the opposite when BlackJack turned up after a night out on the tiles, with a squirrel.

He was very very pleased with himself.

It was almost too big for him, and he didn’t exactly know what to do with it, and refused to hand it over to me for my breakfast, but he was very pleased with himself.

So he had a hard sleep on the landing blanket.

InterCatWebnetCheck

yes, it’s been a month with no updates, because I have been busy with many things, however, Blackjack has been keeping an eye on things as you can see.

In between some HARD sleeping.

Whilst I have been re-organising my figures and right sizing the lead mountain range.

With some help, of course.

And then there has been the continued renovation of Mordheim terrain as I have lured some of the Byakhees into Frostgrave.

So, I’m now busy emptying Louis’ memory card and will do some updates ASAP.

Heresy Miniatures

I have my eye on the not Bappuss, “Pussbag” as a familiar for my wizards. 😉

For those not aware of Bagpuss, its a 1970’s children’s programme, and its my favourite.

Bagpuss is a magical cat. When he wakes up, all his friends come to life. He can also make his thoughts visible in bubbles above his head.
Despite this, he doesn’t play a major part in most of the stories, instead being content to lie on his rug and listen to the songs the others sing as they identify and repair the thing.

All in all, he’s just an old, saggy cloth cat.
Baggy, and a bit loose at the seams.
But Emily loved him.

Intercatwebnet links for the AVBCW game.

As we all know, cats rule the Intercatwebnet.

BlackJack dabbing the screen saver.

It kept him occupied for several minutes. I had to make a peace offering to the Cats, following the invasion of the house by strangers on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, plus my absence as official door keeper for the majority of Saturday.

Here are some of the other gents’ interpretations of events of the 9th:

I’ll update as more blogs get updated.
