Laserburn – Villa Part 2 – Pieces of Cardboard and small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri

Ok, slower than expected, the resin scenery pieces is undercoated and pretty much base coated.

However, asking over at the Laserburn Yahoo! Group about basing where:

the stakes were high, men were real men, women were real women and small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri were real small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri. And all dared to brave unknown terrors, to do mighty deeds, to boldly split infinitives that no man had split before – and thus was the Empire forged.

…has indicated a need to base the building.

So I thought ok, this is an opportunity to hold forth on how I base pieces of scenery.

Firstly I measured out a base on the card, and on one side added another couple of cms, so I could add extra clutter including barriers and such like.

One of the key things I do, is round off the corners of card bases – three cuts each of approx 30 degrees makes a rounded edge. Square edges get damaged and start splitting up quickly. The card was then sprayed black on the underside, the top was painted with my dark granite grey – I use artists card and the topside is gently textured to start with. Again make sure the edges have been fully painted, I cannot stress this enough.

The card warps and then settles back to a flat surface, and if that doesn’t do it, then weigh it down overnight with a few weighty tomes on economics, politics and history…

Oh – lets watch some paint dry… :-/

In the meantime, the building has been painted as base coat.
